Abstract

Ectopic pregnancy is characterized by the abnormal implantation of the blastocyst outside the uterine cavity. It affects approximately 2% of pregnant women, the uterine tube being the most frequent abnormal implantation site. The main complication is the rupture of the uterine tube with the subsequent hemorrhage and risk of hemodynamic alteration that threatens the life of the patient. Ectopic pregnancy can be treated conservatively using methotrexate, and surgically if rupture is suspected because of the presence of hemoperitoneum. Traditionally, open surgery or laparatomy has been chosen when hemoperitoneum is present; however, in recent years laparoscopic surgery has been presented as a new, safe alternative with greater benefits for patients. The following is a report of the clinical case of a pregnant woman who presents with an accident ectopic pregnancy plus massive hemoperitoneum, successfully managed with laparoscopic surgery, also taking advantage of the opportunity to carry out a bibliographic review of the subject.
