Abstract

Objective: to analyze the plastic deformation, microcracks and craters of machined files after instrumentation in curved canals. Methodology: 90 mesial roots of upper and lower molars were used; the samples were randomly divided into two groups (n=45) for the ProTaper Gold® (PG) and TruNatomy® (TN) systems. Before using the files, they were observed in the scanning electron microscope in zero uses; The instrumentation protocol was carried out for each system with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite irrigation. After 9 uses they were analyzed in the scanning electron microscope to detect any surface defects present. Results: after nine uses, three surface defects were found: micro cracks, plastic deformation and craters in the two groups of files; micro cracks 97.80% ProTaper Gold® and 100% TruNatomy® group, plastic deformation 15.60% PG and 35.60% TN, craters: 100% for both files.
