Abstract

Fetus in fetus is a rare clinical finding, with fewer than 100 cases reported in the literature (FIF) [1]. It occurs mainly in newborns, with an incidence of approximately 1 in 500 000 live births. [2]. To our knowledge, there is only one reported case of FIF with pulmonary presentation worldwide [3]. In Peru there is no report of cases of FIF with pulmonary presentation, and our finding was a 15-day-old neonate, with respiratory distress and severe hypoxemia, requiring mechanical ventilatory support, and thoracic radiographic images showing posterior mediastinal tumor, finding thoracic Fetus in fetus during surgery, little described in the literature, and that, thanks to early surgical intervention, good clinical results were obtained. Often late intervention can produce a fatal outcome, due to the mediastinal location compressing vital organ structures. Wu et al. reported a cardiac arrest in an infant due to a huge FIF in the posterior mediastinum [4] Imaging aids play an important role in its diagnosis.
