Abstract

Introduction: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) fall within the same disease spectrum. They differ in the degree of cutaneous detachment. In JSS, up to 10% of the body surface is affected. It can be triggered by multiple predisposing factors such as side effects related to drugs commonly used in medical practice and agents of infectious etiology. Therefore, it becomes a serious and clinically important process whose incidence in the pediatric population in developed countries such as the United States is as high as 5.3 cases per million inhabitants. Objective: To describe a pediatric case who developed JSS and in whom human coronavirus OC43 was isolated as the possible causative agent. Methodology: A non-systematic review of the literature and summary of relevant aspects of the clinical history of the case attended at the Fundación clínica club Noel in the city of Santiago de Cali - Colombia was carried out. Conclusion: SJS has a non-negligible frequency in pediatric population. However, there are no case reports documenting the finding of human coronavirus OC43 in patients with JSS.
